My 10 year anniversary
Today is my 10 year anniversary of starting Megan Williams Photography.
10 years ago I attended a Dog Photography course with Andy Biggar one of the world’s best Dog photographers. We spent the day outdoors in Cheshire photographing Gundogs in action and I came home that night thinking this is something I’m actually quite good at and really enjoy.
Although I don’t think my style of photography has changed too much with happy, colourful outdoor shots being my approach, my skills have definitely progressed over the years. I’m not sure I’m quite brave enough to publish some of my first commissions on the internet as I’m my own worst critic!
With the hundreds’s of thousands of photos I have taken (probably millions!) my passion has always been for Dogs and country life. What began as a weekend job whilst at school and sixth form, took me to University for a 1st class degree in Editorial and Advertising Photography to then working full time as a Photographer. During Covid and lockdowns I worked with other brands in Photography and Marketing bringing so many more skills into my work.
I’m often asked what my favourite thing is about my job; I say it is the freedom that it gives me. The freedom to choose to do something different every day, to meet all the incredible people and animals who share their stories with me, most of all the flexibility that comes with running your own business. I’ll work long days and irregular hours to complete photoshoots and finalise images on time, but I’m so grateful for the opportunities that gives me for spending time with my own dogs and family that I know I would miss if I was working in an office.
If you told me 10 years ago of all of the brands and opportunities I’d been commissioned to photograph I wouldn’t have believed you. So I can’t even imagine what the next 10 years of following my dreams will bring (hopefully even more Dogs in my pack).
Thank you for being part of my journey,
Megan
